Main Events and Activities

There are too many fun activities to count. And none of them are ordinary. Let’s fill you in on how you can celebrate this Independence Day.

Jacksonville Beach Fireworks Show

Every 4th of July, Jacksonville Beach becomes the stage for a breathtaking fireworks display. After a full day of biking and enjoying the beaches, people rush to the sands to witness the sky light up.

1st street and 2nd street parallel the beaches from Atlantic Beach, all the way to Ponte Vedra Beach, and these roads come alive with thousands of locals and guests. From walking to biking, to riding in your golf cart, cruising up and down these beachside roads has become a tradition. You’ll see yard parties, food trucks, and bustling restaurants and bars throughout the day. You’ll want to pace yourself for the largest party of the year at our beaches!

The evening celebration begins with a live performance by the Navy Band at 8PM on the stage of the Seawalk Pavilion. It sets a festive tone for the evening. As dusk falls, anticipation builds until the sky bursts into color. By 9PM, the roads have shut down and the crowds have built up, eagerly awaiting the main show.

Spectators come from every nook and corner to enjoy the ocean breeze while watching the sky light up above the waves.

It’s a must-see spectacle that you will regret missing. We recommend arriving before sunset to claim your best spot for the perfect vantage point near the Jacksonville Pier. But you’ll also be able to see this awesome display from futher down the beaches as well.

Downtown Jacksonville Celebrations

While the beach fireworks are certainly spectacular, downtown Jacksonville offers unique spots to appreciate the July 4th festivities too. Several waterfront parks, like Memorial Park and Metropolitan Park, provide alternative viewing areas to take in the aerial designs.

Also, downtown hosts complimentary events throughout the day and evening. Live music by local performers gets the community grooving long before dark. Delectable smells waft through the air from food trucks serving up all-American fare. Kids can also enjoy patriotic activities led by volunteers.

As the sky darkens, everyone gathers expectantly by the St. Johns River. Right at 9PM, the first fireworks bursts above the city skyline. The panoramic scene is beautifully reflected on the calm river waters below.

With so much going on downtown, consider arriving early and grabbing a bite before finding your perfect fireworks viewing spot. I hope to see you exploring all that Jacksonville’s July 4th celebrations have to offer this year.

Family-Friendly Activities

These family-friendly activities around Jacksonville are sure to make Independence Day celebrations truly memorable for all ages!

One of our favorite pastimes and affordable family fun, is always watching our local baseball team, the Jumbo Shrimp in downtown Jax. Enjoy fireworks every Friday night throughout the summer and check their calendar for special events like movies nights, picnics and special performances.

July 4th Throwback Baseball Game

Come watch the Eastside Reds versus the Westside Giants as the Westside defends their title and the Eastside tries to take the trophy back.

This annual tradition celebrates the Fourth of July and Springfield Preservation and Revitalization’s mission to preserve the historic character of the Springfield community.

The event is free and family friendly. Dogs on leashes are welcome. Pre-game festivities include playing catch in the outfield, running the bases, and a parade for children. Limited bleacher seating is available, and guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, tents, and picnic supplies. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

Riverside Arts Market

Held along the St. Johns River downtown, this market is a festive place to spend your 4th of July weekend.

In addition to browsing unique arts and crafts booths, kids can participate in red, white, and blue hands-on projects. Meanwhile, live music on the main stage keeps the energy high.

Fireworks over the Matanzas

St Augustine is another one of our favorite places to celebrate the 4th of July. Their quaint compact riverfront downtown makes walking around, enjoying celebrations throughout the day a breeze. You will likely have to park far and transport, walk or ride your bike into town.

Fireworks Over the Matanzas, the City of St. Augustine’s annual Independence Day celebration, returns Thursday, July 4, starting at 6:00pm with The All-Star Orchestra performing a two-hour concert in The Plaza de la Constitución performing Big Band and popular tunes with a patriotic flare.

The 20-minute fireworks display will reach high over Matanzas Bay starting at 9:30pm, choreographed to a stirring soundtrack of popular and patriotic music delivered over an extensive sound system.  The entire Bayfront between the Castillo de San Marcos National Monument and the Bridge of Lions will be transformed into a theatre of sight and sound.

Transportation and Parking Tips for the 4th of July

Make the most of getting around on July 4th.

With big crowds expected downtown and at the beaches, planning your transportation is key to enjoying Jacksonville’s Independence Day celebrations stress-free. Here are some tips:

  1. For the environmentally friendly, consider renting bikes, stand-up electric scooters, or golf carts from Sublime Rides. They are fun family options to explore freely for a sublime experience.
  2. If driving, be prepared for traffic delays and limited parking. Arrive early or use park-and-ride shuttles from outlying parking garages.
  3. Along the beaches, there are multiple paid parking spots to take advantage of, along with parking spots along 2nd and 3rd streets, but arrive early to snag a spot!
  4. Our favorite hack is to park fairly far from the beaches, but load up our bikes and bike into the beaches area. This makes it far easier to ride around, enjoying festivities during the day, while finding a prime spot for firework gazing at night.
  5. Rideshare and taxis will have surcharges in effect. Split the fare with friends to save versus individual cars.
  6. If using a recreational vehicle, obey all traffic laws for safety. Drive slowly and watch for pedestrians, especially kids.

Let freedom ring all day!

Safety and Regulations to Follow on the 4th of July

Stay safe and compliant at July 4th events.

It’s important to observe safety guidelines with a huge population out on the streets:

  1. No personal fireworks are allowed. Only permitted displays adhering to fire codes. Leave anything explosive at home to avoid fines.
  2. Secure belongings. Opportunistic theft is rare but can occur in dense settings. Consider leaving valuables at home.
  3. Stay hydrated. Sun, heat and activity can lead to dehydration easily. Portable water bottles are encouraged over sugary drinks.
  4. Respect public property. Leaving trash behind ruins the celebration for others. Use provided recycling bins and restrooms properly.
  5. Obey traffic personnel. Where road closures are in effect, following police direction keeps everyone moving smoothly.
  6. Avoid road rage. With traffic congested, impatience leads nowhere. Give other drivers space for safer conditions.
  7. Respect distance. In massive crowds, be aware and alert in the case of an emergency.

Following basic safety rules protects your Independence Day experience and enables police to focus on serious concerns alone. Most of all – have a happy, responsible celebration!

Conclusion
